UNEXPECTED LOVE

CHAPTER 15

Hey guys, I’m back! I been really busy this last month and I haven’t had time to really write or tweet for that matter. I decided that I wasn’t going to send the sneak peak via email because I’ve been gone for awhile. I have a special surprise for you guys that I’ve been working on but I won’t say it just yet! Thank you for being so patient with me, I appreciate it. Anyways, this chapter picks up exactly where I left off last time. Enjoy :)

Safaree arrived to Lauren’s house 20 minutes later. He took a deep breath before knocking on her door. A few moments later a tall dark and built guy answered. He suddenly felt like his trip was in vein. Not to mention he felt stupid to believe that Lauren was still single. He mustered up some courage, or what was left of it to speak.

“Hey is Lauren home?” he asked hesitantly. Before the guy could answer Lauren appeared in a white robe tied at the side. She quickly approached the doorway.

“Safaree, what are you doing here?” she asked shocked. Safaree stood there in a daze of utter confusion and guilt. Lauren snapped her fingers to get him out of his trance. He cleared his throat and spoke.

“I came to talk but I see that you’re busy so I’ll just leave” he said turning around. The guy went back into the house. Lauren quickly grabbed his elbow.

“No, I’m not busy at all. Come inside…please” she pleaded. Safaree turned around and looked at her.

“Lauren, I don’t want to disturb anything and plus I prefer our conversation to be private”

“Don’t worry about him his just leaving, please come inside” 

Safaree was reluctant to the idea but he and Lauren really needed to talk. She let go of his arm and motioned for him to come inside. Once he was inside, she closed the door and made her way into the living room to sit and he followed. Lauren sat in the love seat while Safaree made himself comfortable on the sectional. It was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. The guy came into the living room a short while later.

“Baby, I’m going to my sister’s house. I’ll be back later to check on you OK?” he said walking over to her and kissing her forehead. Safaree’s eyes grew big when he mentioned the word ‘baby’. He just sat there with his hands together looking at the floor.

“OK, I’ll see you later” she replied. He left out the door a few seconds later and the room got even more tense and awkward than before. Neither one spoke for awhile not knowing exactly what to say to the other. A few minutes later Lauren spoke up.

“Safaree are you going to say anything?”

“I was until that last scene” he stated.

“What did you come to talk about?” she asked avoiding the obvious statement.

“Lauren I came to apologize and settle any hard feelings between us so we can move on but I see you already done that so I guess there isn’t much more for me to say” he said getting up and walking to the front door. He was hurt and for some reason seeing Lauren with someone else made his blood boil and his heart sink. Lauren wasted no time going after him.

“Safaree wait!” she yelled. He ignored her and proceeded to open the door when she ran over and blocked it. They stared at each other. “I’m sorry too” she said holding back tears. Safaree sighed.

“Sorry for what?” he asked confused.

“I’m sorry I didn’t tell you earlier. I know you deserved to be told as soon as it happened” she said letting a single tear escape. “I’m sorry I misjudged you too” She looked up at him to see if he believed her or not but she couldn’t just by looking at him. Safaree stood there and stared at her. He was happy that she apologized but he was the one who needed to too.

“And I’m sorry I made you feel unwanted, neglected or loved because that’s not the case at all. I truly love you but I wasn’t ready for a relationship at the moment” he said wiping away the single tear running down her cheek.

“You do?” she asked surprised.

“Yes I do, and it took awhile for me to realize that” Lauren looked at the floor. “Say something” he said lifting her head.

“I don’t have anything to say Safaree”

“Well I have two questions for you”

“I’m listening”

“Who is this guy and why was he here?”

“He’s a friend of mine. We’re not in a relationship; we just call each other baby for some odd reason. He helped me emotionally when you weren’t there and no we’ve never had sex either…if that’s what you were thinking” she said shyly.

“Good because I want to be the only one you call baby” Lauren blushed. Safaree bent down and kissed her softly on the lips while picking her up by her thighs. She giggled and wrapped her legs around his waist and her arms around his shoulder.

Nicki was writing down some lyrics to a song when she heard someone fidgeting with the front door and it opened. She wasn’t expecting anyone today so she peeked her head around the corner only to find Safaree walking in.

“Hey Nic. Can I talk to you?” he asked making himself comfortable next to her at the bar. She had been calling him for days now and he finally stopped avoiding her.

“Sure” she said stopping what she was doing and looking at him. He didn’t look mad or angry at all which judging by his previous interaction with Lauren, took her by surprise. He took a deep breath and blurted out.

“You knew the whole time didn’t you?” he asked Nicki. Nicki sighed.

“Yes, I did know but she told us to keep it to ourselves until she told you herself. I didn’t know that it would take this long though”

“Nicki we’re best friends you should’ve just told me something”

“I know that but she was just so fragile I didn’t want to bring it up to you and risk her health. She was really, really emotional about the whole thing when it happened. I guess I thought that bringing it up would delve her deeper into depression. I’m so sorry.” She said tearing up a bit.

Safaree reached out and hugged Nicki. “It’s OK. I know now and that’s all that matters. I never want you guys to keep any secrets from me from now on and I’ll do the same.” Nicki nodded her head in agreement.

“OK” she said breaking away.

“And since I just said we would keep any secrets from now on, I guess I should tell you that I talked to Lauren and we understand each other a little better. We’re going to help each other get through this. Together…as a couple.” He said smiling.

“What!?”

“I said…”

“I know what you just said, I’m just shocked that’s all.” She said cutting him off. “Why now though, I don’t understand”

“Well I always loved Lauren but I was just young and dumb at the time to really admit it.”

“Hold up and Lauren didn’t tell me?”

“Nicki I just came from her house, damn! It hasn’t been a whole day yet. I told her that I would tell you first.”

“Oh” Nicki thought for a moment and processed everything Safaree was telling her. Out of nowhere she punched him in the arm.

“Oww. What the hell is that for!?”

“If you ever hurt her again imma fuck you up; got it?” Safaree was holding his arm with is face twisted up.

“I got it! Shit…” Just then the doorbell rung and Safaree went over to answer it stilling rubbing his arm. He opened it and saw a delivery guy standing there with two set of roses.

“Can I help you?”

“Yes, I’m looking for Onika Maraj. Is she here?” the guy said looking at his order form.

“Yeah, she is. I’ll take those from you sir” he said reaching for the flowers.

“Can you sign here for me please?”

“Sure Safaree said getting the pen and signing the slip.

“You have a nice day”

“You too man” he said closing the door behind him and walking back towards the kitchen.

"Who was that?" Nicki asked puzzled. Safaree placed the flowers on the island taking out the card that came with it.

"It's for you" he said opening it. Nicki dashed over to him but he held it above her head.

"Safaree give it here!" she said reaching up to get it from him.

"No!" 

"It's mine so hand it over!"

"Let me read  it to you"

"No I want to read it by myself" Nicki started jumping up to pry it from his grasp but he was just too tall. Safaree ran to the living room opening the card in the process smiling away. Nicki was furious. She didn't think that it was funny at all. Her emotions were all out of place already and this certainly wasn't helping the situation. Feeling defeated she ran upstairs with tears in her eyes and slammed her room door. She walked over to her bed and fell on it sinking her head into her pillow as the tears kept coming.

A few minutes later Safaree came and knocked on the door.

"Nic" he called but received no answer so he turned the knob slowly. The door was opened. He cracked it open to see her lying in bed crying her eyes out. Safaree walked over to her and sat on the bed.

"Nic I didn't read it, OK?" Her back was turned away from him. He still received no answer from her. He put his hand on her shoulder.

"Don't touch me!" she said angrily. He removed his hand and placed the card on the nightstand.

"Nic I'm sorry. I know you're probably still distraught over the break up so I'll leave you alone. I put the card on the nightstand for you to read" he stated getting up and leaving. 

Once he was gone Nicki dried her eyes and grabbed the card from off the dresser. She sat up in her bed and crossed her legs and began to read it.

Hey Nicki,

            I haven’t seen or talked to you in awhile, I hope everything’s well with you. This might come as a shock to you but I took your advice and fired Lisa. I decided that I couldn’t trust her anymore after that stunt she pulled. I’m sorry for not standing up for you the way I should’ve at the time I was just shocked! Scarlett and I are doing well and I have yet to find another nanny but at this point I don’t even know if I want another one. I care so much about you and it hurt when you said that we could only be friends. I just wish things were different between us. It’s like we aren’t even friends anymore but I’ll always have your back. I’m not sure that you’ll have mine though; judging by the way our relationship ended, but it’s OK. I’ll learn to deal with it just like everything else that has happened in my life. Scarlett misses you and I could tell because every time she sees the princess cup, she says Nicki. Cute, right? Anyways she insisted on getting you a bouquet of flowers like mine. Hers is of course the little one. I wish you well in all your endeavors. I see you doing big things! J

Nicki held the card close to her and began tearing up again. She had to talk to Drake and let him know how she was feeling but it would have to wait until the start of Tour which was a few days away. She wanted to talk to him in person instead of over the phone. Nicki missed him and Scarlett a lot lately and it was all she really thought about. She got herself together and went back down stairs to put her roses in water. She looked at them sitting on the island and smiled because they were her favorite color, Pink. She smiled even wider when she saw the little bouquet from Scarlett. She walked over and picked them up sniffing them. Nicki couldn't wait until she saw them again.

It was the start of Tour and Nicki was excited to see all of her Young Money family particularly, Drake. She was also nervous about how she was going to express her feelings toward him and apologize for walking out of their relationship the way she did. His note along with her mother’s advice made her feel guilty about her actions. She loved Drake, but she was just too stubborn to stick around and be hurt. She kicked herself mentally for letting her walls up and not allowed someone to love her because of her previous relationships. She refused to get hurt again but she knew Drake loved her and she wanted to let him in again. Despite the fact that Lisa was no longer an issue since he fired her, she still wasn’t sure that she saw the last of her. All that mattered was now was Drake and Scarlett, whom she missed dearly.

As she arrived at the venue for opening night, her heart raced from the anticipation of their meeting.

Nicki was fidgeting with her fingers when she heard a familiar voice approaching in the distance. She immediately fixed her hair and checked her purse for her mirror to check herself one last time.

Safaree silently chuckled and whispered, “I’ll leave you two alone to talk. Want me to take your purse to the dressing room?”

“Yeah, please.” She said handing him it. Safaree walked off just when Drake approached her. They both locked eyes staring at each other unknowingly. He smiled and gave her a warm embrace. Both of them taking in each others scent and committing it to memory.

“Long time, no see” he said letting go.

“I know.” She said shyly looking into his hazel eyes.

“How have you been?”

“I’m good, thanks for asking.”

“I see you heavy on your feature shit. Everybody wants Nicki Minaj now, huh?”

“Yeah, I guess you could say that.” Drake nodded his head.

“Did you get my flowers and the letter I sent to you?” he asked.

“Yes, I got them. Thank you. I wanted to wait to tell you in person that, that was very thoughtful of you”

“It’s no problem…really” The moment got a little awkward then Nicki spoke.

“So where’s Scarlett?” she asked hesitantly.

“She’ll be here soon. I decided to bring her with me after all” he informed.

“That’s great! I can’t wait to see her” she said smiling.

“You will after the show”

“Speaking of after the show, I have to tell you something”

“You do?” he asked puzzled.

“Yes, I do. But I have to go and get dressed now so we’ll talk later.” She said turning around to leave.

“Ok” he replied walking to his dressing room to get prepped for show time.

After the show, Nicki was waiting for Drake backstage. She replayed over and over what she was going to tell him but as soon as she heard him coming everything just went out the window. A few moments later he appeared with Scarlett walking beside him. She immediately smiled at the sight of them.

“Nicki!” she yelled running over to her. Nicki picked her up and hugged her.

“Hey lady bug. I missed you! Did you miss me?” she asked. Scarlett shook her head. Drake smiled at them having their moment. Nicki kissed her on her cheek and put her down.

“I told you she missed you” Drake said taking Scarlett’s hand in his.

“You sure did!” she said looking up into his eyes. Nicki melted. She decided to just let it all out right then and there. “Drake, I’ve been thinking…”

“Baby, there you are I’ve been looking for you” A woman said walking towards them. Nicki’s eyes blasted. The lady walked up to Drake and kissed him on the lips. Nicki stood there stunned.

“I’m sorry baby, this is Nicki. Nicki this is my girlfriend Erica” he said with his arm wrapped around her. Nicki looked from him to Scarlett to her and felt embarrassed.

“Oh so this is the Nicki you were telling me about. Hi, it’s nice to meet you” she said extending her hand. Nicki felt awkward but she sucked it up and replied.

“Hey nice to meet to too” Drake looked at the two women and smiled.

“Baby can you take Scarlett back to the bus for me please, I’ll be there in a second” he instructed.

“Sure” she said taking Scarlett’s hand and walking away. The moment got really awkward for Nicki. She certainly wasn't expecting this.

“So what were you going to tell me?” he asked.

“It’s nothing, don’t worry about it”

“No you said you had something to tell me”

“Drake I said don’t worry about it! It’s not anything really important." She said walking away. Drake found her behavior odd. He shook it off and walked back to his bus.

Nicki was walking to her bus with her heart racing. She couldn't believe that Drake moved on. It hurt her to know that the possibility of getting him back now was slim. She held back her tears so no one would suspect anything but the truth was she was hurting, badly. On her way back to the bus she bumped into Wayne.

"Nic"

 "Hey Wayne"

"What's wrong with you?" he asked concerned.

"It's nothing I'm just tired" she lied.

"Oh ok, well were all going out to dinner to celebrate the start of tour so don't go to sleep on us yet"

"Ok I won't" she said half smiling.

"I just informed the drivers on the place we're gonna meet up at. We're leaving now so hurry up and get to the bus" 

"Ok" she said walking away. Wayne knew something was wrong because she was giving him short answers and really didn't protest anything he was saying.

An hour later all of young money were at the restaurant waiting for the waiter to come back with their orders. Drake brought Scarlett and Erica with him to the dinner which didn't make things easier for Nicki. To make matters worst she was sitting directly across from them. Neither had said a word to the other. Drake glanced at Nicki a few times but Nicki didn't even look back. He figured that he had done something wrong to tick her off.

Wayne was studying both of them from across the table because he knew Nicki was upset about Erica. Drake had told him about their break-up before hand so he was completely aware of the situation. He had Lil Tune in a high chair next to him feeding him some chicken nuggets and fries.

The waiter came back with the food and served everyone. Safaree was sitting next to Nicki and he saw that she was acting a little strange too. She was too quite and kept looking at her phone instead of engaging in conversation with the team. 

"Daddy I want that" Scarlett said pointing at the crayons and the piece of paper that was on the table. Drake handed them to her and she began coloring. Erica was sitting next to Drake looking on and smiling. Nicki looked up from her phone and smiled at Scarlett but he smile quickly faded when she saw Erica and Drake kissing. She grabbed her phone to text Safaree even though he was sitting next to her.

She got up and grabbed her purse storming back to the bus. Everyone looked at Nicki disappearing out of the restaurant. Safaree got up, excused himself and ran behind her. Drake pulled away from the kiss he and Erica shared and knew why she left but he thought that she just wanted to be friends with him. He felt bad and wanted to talk to her to see where her mind was at. Could she still have feelings for me? he asked himself.
