WHEN IT HURTS

CHAPTER 13

“You miss me?” the voice said.

“Nicki?” he asked confused walking over to his bed. The voice just chuckled. Drake moved closer to get a better look but his vision was still clouded. The person moved closer to the edge of the bed. Once she got in front of him she reached up to his neck and wrapped her arms around it. She leaned closer to peck him on the lips when someone blasted through the door. It was Nicki.

“GET THE FUCK OFF HIM!!” SHE YELLED CLOSING THE DOOR SO SCARLETT WOULDN’T HEAR. Lisa was stunned, how did she get in the house? What she didn’t know was that Drake gave her a key to his house.

“HOW THE FUCK YOU GOT IN HERE?” LISA QUESTIONED. By this time Drake had a dazed look on his face. Nicki knew that his drink was spiked by Lisa. She knew he wasn’t exactly in his right frame of mind. She gently pushed him in the nearby lounge chair and turned to Lisa who was still in the bed wearing sexy lingerie.

“I KNEW YOU COULDN’T BE FUCK’N TRUSTED. I JUST KNEW YOU WOULD TRY SOME SHIT LIKE THIS.” SHE SAID SHAKING HER HEAD. “YOUR PATHETIC, YOU KNOW THAT?” SHE SAID POINTING A FINGER AT HER AND MOVING CLOSER TO HER. “HE MIGHT NOT SEE THROUGH YOUR TRIFLING ASS BUT I DO” SHE SAID IN HER FACE.

“GET YOUR DAMN HAND OUT MY FACE!!!!!” LISA YELLED.

“OR WHAT?” NICKI SAID STEPPING CLOSER. Lisa was beyond mad. She pushed Nicki and she fell back a little not losing her balance. Nicki charged forward and punched her in the face with one quick blow. Once Lisa was lying back on the bed Nicki used this opportunity to get into the bed. She grabbed her by her neck and kept punching her repeatedly. Lisa kicked and grabbed Nicki’s hair. Nicki kept her grip around her neck and punched her in the lip. “BITCH!!” She yelled to her.  Lisa managed to get a punch in her side. Nicki winced but she still didn’t let up on her neck. She had her pinned to her advantage. With everything in her Nicki gave her repeated blows to her face one after the other and blood started trickling down. Nicki’s fist was swelling up but she didn’t care. “STAY THE FUCK AWAY FROM HIM” She yelled punching Lisa in the jaw. Lisa stopped and held the spot where she had hit. Her breathing was laboured by Nicki’s powerful grip around her neck and it was beginning to strangle her. Nicki didn’t want to fight Lisa once her mouth was filled with blood and she kept coughing it up all over the sheets. She backed off the bed not wanting to go to jail.

“GET THE FUCK OUT OF HERE BEFORE I KILL YOUR ASS” SHE POINTED TO THE BEDROOM DOOR. Lisa got up and left fast blood oozing from her entire face. Nicki took a second to take a breather. She looked at Drake who was completely oblivious to what just went down. His body was limp and he was still dizzy.

Nicki walked to the bathroom and lifted her shirt. There was a bruise on her left side that was getting darker by the minute. Her hair was a mess and her clothes were messed up but that was it. She ran some warm water and grabbed a towel and wet it. She placed it over her bruise gently for a few minutes. Once she was done she looked in the mirror again to find Drake right behind her with a confused look on his face and his hand on his forehead. She turned around a noticed that he still had only a towel on. She bit her lip seductively. He was sexy as hell to her. “I see why the bitch is jealous now” she thought. She shook her head and smirked at her thoughts. She grabbed his hand and guided him back to the lounge chair to sit. She had to clean up his room and get him some clothes to put on. She looked to the floor and his clothes that he picked out before his shower was there. She quickly got him dressed in his boxers.

“Nicki?” he asked again.

“Yeah it’s me” she responded grabbing his pajama pants and lifting his leg in it one by one and up over his waist.

“What are you doing here?” he asked.

“SHHHHH” She said placing her finger over his lips. She made him sit back on the lounge chair and went to get some clean sheets to put on the bed since Lisa’s blood was all over the one that was on the bed. She gathered the sheets off the bed and put new ones on it. She went back to the lounge chair and grabbed Drake by the arm and put it around her neck to help him walk to the bed. She pulled the covers back and guided him into bed. She kissed his for head and turned to pick up the blood-stained sheets from the floor and left the room. She went to the kitchen and got a garbage bag to put it in. She then went outside and trashed them. When she went back into the house she checked on Scarlett who was still sleeping peacefully. She made her way back to his bedroom to grab his unfinished drink from the nightstand and made her way back to the kitchen to put it into a Ziploc bag. While she was zipping up the bag Lisa came around the corner. Her right eye was badly bruised and so were her lip, neck and jaw. Her lip was swollen and she also had a couple scratches to her face and neck.  She said nothing while grabbing some ice from the freezer.  With her back turned to Nicki, Nicki held up the Ziploc bag with the laced drink inside.

“OH AND IF I CATCH YOU TRYING SOMETHING SLICK AGAIN JUST KNOW I GOT EVIDENCE AGAINST YOUR ASS, FINGERPRINTS AND ALL” she warned. Lisa turned her head from what she was doing and looked over her shoulder. She didn’t say anything she just exited the kitchen with a bag full of ice to her lip. Nicki went back upstairs with a bottle and the Ziploc bag in hand. She placed everything on his nightstand and went into his medicine cabinet to get an aspirin. She shook him a little to wake him and he just brushed it off. She pulled him up towards her and shook him again.

“Drake, take this for me please” she said lowly.

“Uh, wh- what is that?” he asked.

“Aspirin, just take it, it’ll make you feel better” she said placing the water in his hand along with the tablet. He took it and sunk back into the bed. By now it was 2 o’clock in the morning. Nicki had an early flight to catch in the morning. She decided that she would just go back to the hotel and catch some sleep before she headed back to New York. She would explain everything to him in the morning, that’s if he called. She locked the door and left. She knew Lisa wouldn’t try anything for awhile because she was still battered and bruised but she also knew she couldn’t protect him he would just have to figure it out by himself. She just hoped it wouldn’t be too late when he did see through her.

The next morning Drake woke up later than he would normally. All through the night he was waking up and throwing up. He couldn’t remember what happened last night if his life depended on it. He got up and went to the bathroom to brush his teeth and wash his face. He then made his way downstairs and saw that Lisa and Scarlett were watching TV in the living room. Scarlett saw her dad and ran to him.

“Daddy” she said. Drake reached down and picked her up kissing her.

“Hey princess” he said smoothing her hair. Lisa had her faced turned away from him. "Did she eat breakfast already?" he asked.

"Yeah she did" she said still not turning towards him. Drake walked around to her and gasped.

"What happened to you?" he asked placing Scarlett back down on the floor.

"Ask your girlfriend" she said storming back to her bedroom. Drake followed her.

"Nicki did this to you?" "How?" "Why?" "When?" he said rubbing his for head.

"Look why don't you just talk to her and leave me the hell alone OK" She said sitting on her bed and icing her lip.

"You need to go to the hospital and get checked out now, me and Scarlett will be fine by ourselves for a while. Just take a break for a week or two while I figure somethings out"

"Fine by me!" she said grabbing her purse and leaving out the door. Drake quickly dialed Nicki's number and she picked up on the second ring.

"Hello" she said a bit tired.

"Nicki what the hell happened last night. I just sent Lisa to the hospital to get checked out her whole face is swollen."

"Drake the bitch spiked your drink last night and was trying to have sex with you. After you left I had a feeling that something wasn't right and I caught her in the act when I came back to the house. You were completely out of it and had put and end to that."

"OMG, what the hell has gotten into her. This isn't like her at all she was so nice and polite" he said trying to remember anything from last night.

"Yeah that's what she want you to think" she chuckled.

"Where are you?"

"New York, why?" she replied.

"I wanted us to talk face to face again but I see that can't happen"

"Drake I'm not trying to be rude but until she's gone I'm not coming over and it's pretty sad because I miss Scarlett already"

"I'm sure she misses you too but what about me? I told Lisa to take a week or two off. I miss you Nicki"

"Drake please, it's only been a day and besides I think you should use this time to focus on yourself and Scarlett"

"I guess your right" he shrugged. "You didn't have to beat her that bad Nicki" he said changing the subject.

"Oh it could've been worse trust me" she promised. "You don't remember anything do you?" she asked.

"I only remember taking a shower and getting out and finding someone in my bed but I thought it was you and alot of commotion" he said scratching his head.

"No it was her! You should've seen the look on her face when I caught her. I pushed you on the lounge and confronted her. Next thing you know we were wrestling in your bed. That bitch punched me in my side and I got even angrier. I stopped once I saw her coughing up blood and told her to get out of your room. She left and I went to your bathroom. You got up and came in after me and placed you back on the lounge so I could clean up. Your sheets were bloody so I trashed them and put new ones on your bed then I gave you an aspirin and you went to sleep so I left"

"Damn, I don't remember any of that all I heard were muffled sounds"

"Listen I got to go, I guess I'll talk

"Ok, that's great! I'm happy for you, really"

"Thanks"

"Can we at least be friends?" he asked.

"We'll always be friends Drake. I still have love for you and I always will"

"Thanks, that means a lot" he replied.

"Yeah....well your welcome"

"Good bye, stay safe"

"Thanks and bye" Nicki hung up. Her heart was heavy. She missed him too but they needed time apart. She cried silently in her bedroom. Drake placed his phone down on the kitchen counter. His heart was broken. So much was going on and he never felt so alone.

*New York*

It had been two days since Drake and Nicki broke things off. Both of them were missing each other like crazy but they just figured they needed time apart. Nicki was back in New York focusing on her heavy workload. She never spoke to anyone about what happened with Drake in LA except for Safaree and her close friends. She couldn’t hide it from them even if she wanted to. It was Saturday and her friends invited her to go with them for a little retail therapy. Shopping somehow always makes things better.

"So what happened?" Lauren asked. Nicki sighed.

"I just popped up and boom there she was trying to seduce him"

"Nah for real though?" TT asked.

"Yeah, I just lost it when she pushed me and after that we started fighting" Nicki explained.

"In his bed?" Candi asked.

"Yup" Nicki said shaking her head.

"Oh lord. What did he say?" Lauren asked.

"He didn't even remember anything, so there was nothing to say" she simply replied.

"Do you miss him?" Tyesha asked.

"Yeah but I told him I wasn't going to be over there if she was still going to be his nanny"

"Yeah Nic but you can't let her ruin you guys' relationship"

"I'm NOT...I just need space I guess" she shrugged. "I still don't think that's it though, she's not done yet. I can feel it but he doesn't see what I see"

"Well we don't either. He'll come around eventually, people have to learn on their own terms"

"I guess your right" She admitted. They all walked in front of a boutique that had a pretty little dress in the window. She immediately thought about Scarlett.

"OMG...you guys that is too cute. I have to get it for her" she said walking into the store. The girls followed and they spent an hour picking out a lot cute stuff for Scarlett.

"Girls are so much fun to shop for" Tyesha stated as they were walking out.

"I know right" Nicki replied. Lauren felt a little uneasy the whole time but she didn't say anything. "So where to next girls?" Nicki asked.

"Home....my feet hurt" Candi said.

"Mine too" Tyesha agreed.

"Let's go then" They all got into their cars and went home.

Drake on the other hand was focusing on planning a birthday party for Scarlett while Lisa was away. She was turning 3 in a couple months and he had no clue on where to begin. For her first birthday they just had a small family get together at the house. Her second birthday was planned by his mom and it was at a party place. He needed help but didn’t know who to turn to. He thought about asking Lisa but considering how she was acting, he didn’t know if he wanted her opinion or help. It had been a few days since the incident. He called to make sure she was alright after she left the hospital.

The next day the girls came over to Nicki's place because they came across a few magazines that they found around the city. Candi handed Nicki them and they all sat at the bar waiting for her reaction. ‘DRAKE AND NANNY SPOTTED OUT SIDE LA’ was plastered all over the front page with the picture to prove it. Nicki was levied. She and Drake just broke up and now he’s seen all over LA with Lisa. She couldn’t believe that he would fall for someone like her but obviously he did. Tears started forming in her eyes but she refused to let them be made visible to her friends. She took a deep breath and placed the magazine on the kitchen counter. Tyesha, Lauren and Candi watched as she walked upstairs to her bedroom door and slammed it shut. They all sat around looking confused as to what will happened. Nicki grabbed her blackberry and dialed his number; she needed to talk to him. The phone rang three times before he picked up.

“Hello” he answered.

“So you moved on that quick, huh?”

“Nicki?”

“You know damn well it’s me, quit playing Drake”

“I’m not playing what are you talking about?”

“Aubrey, are you and Lisa together?”

“NO! What are you talking about?”

“Well it seems that you two have been real cozy and we haven’t even broken up a week yet and you’re out in public with her”

“Nicki I took the bitch to lunch to talk, Ok? And why the hell you care, were not seeing each other anymore remember?”

"I care because I just do ok"

"Well I'm prefectly capable of making my own decisions Nicki"

"I never said that you weren't"

"You said you want us to remain friends right?" he asked.

"Yeah"

"So don't ruin it. Friends support each other"

"But-"

"But nothing" he said cutting her off.

"Fine Drake, I was just was going to say do what's best for you and Scarlett"

"Thank you and I will"

"Good bye"

"Bye" Nicki hung up the phone. She didn't support this one bit but she didn't want to lose him as a friend so she just had to let this take its toll. "Whatever" she thought to her self. She decided she was just going to have to leave it alone for now.

Drake couldn’t remember what happened that night they broke it off. He didn’t want to ruin his chances of getting her back. Nicki was already pissed and he knew that if he told her that after all that happened that he decided to stick with Lisa in being his nanny she would be hurt again.

*A week later*

Nicki was back in LA in her brand new condo. It had big windows, a huge balcony and was on the 34^th floor. She loved the view which was one of the main reasons she bought it plus it was close to the coast. She still had feelings for him. She wanted him to come and see the new crib but the truth was she wanted to see him and Scarlett. She hadn't talked to him since she called and confronted him about him and Lisa in the magazines. She picked up the phone hesitantly and called him.

“Hello”

“Hey, are you busy?”

“Uhh…I’m in my studio working on a track. What’s up?” he asked.

“Oh ok, I just wanted to see if you wanted to see the condo”

“So you’re inviting me over?”

“Yeah if you want to, I don’t want to disturb you if you’re working”

“NO actually I would love to come and see it”

“Alright, I guess I’ll see you in a little bit”

“Sure thing”

“Bye”

“Bye” Drake hung up and smoothed his face over with his hand. He was glad that she was back in LA but at the same time he didn’t know how meeting each other after their break up would be like. He got up from his chair and made his way to the living room. Scarlett ran to him.

“Daddy!” she said with her Barbie in her hands.

“Hey princess, go get your shoes so daddy can put them on” he said pointing to them.

“OK” Scarlett ran to get them and came back.

“Herewh daddy” she said giving them to him. Drake reached down and slipped them on her feet. He checked his pocket for his keys and found them. Drake lifted Scarlett up and headed out the door locking it behind him. He got into his car a drove to Nicki’s condo. Once he got there, he took the elevator up to the 34^th floor. Scarlett was afraid of elevators so she clung to him tightly. Drake walked to her door and knocked three times. Nicki opened the door to find him and Scarlett standing there.

“Nicki” she screamed in excitement reaching for her.

“Hey ladybug, how are you?” she said taking her from Drake. “You been a good girl for daddy?” she asked. Scarlett shook her head yes.  “Good” she said stepping inside and putting her down on her two feet. “Come on in” she motioned to Drake. He stepped inside and she shut the door.

“This is nice Nicki” he stated looking around.

“Thanks” she said. “Let me show you guys the rest“ Drake and Scarlett followed while Nicki showed the condo to them. She was so excited about it and you could tell it in her voice. “Its home for now” she said walking towards the kitchen.

“Well I’m happy for you” he sincerely stated.

“Thank you” she replied smiling. Scarlett ran to go sit in the living room with her Barbie. Drake looked into Nicki’s eyes. They both fell silent just staring at each other for a moment. Nicki sighed and turned around grabbing some water out the fridge. “So how is album coming?”

“It’s coming along pretty well. I can’t complain” he said standing with his hands in his pocket.  Nicki turned back around and leaned on the counter by the fridge take a sip.

“You want anything to drink?” she asked.

“No thanks” he replied. She placed the bottle of water on the kitchen counter behind her and leaned back on it with both hands. Drake looked at her bandaged hand and moved in to get a closer look at it. He grabbed it gently and ran his fingers over it. The swelling when down but there were still bruises visible beneath the bandage. He tried to straighten her fingers all the way out but she winced. She snatched her hand back. He lifted her onto the counter. “Let me see” he said a little above a whisper. She extended her hand to him and he just examined it.  He looked up into her eyes. “You didn’t have to protect me”

“I know” she simply stated.

“So why did you?” he asked.

“It was for personal reasons really, she came at me the wrong way” she said looking down.

Drake lifted her head and kissed her passionately on the lips. Nicki closed her eyes savoring every moment of it. She deepened the kiss. She missed this and just wanted it to be normal again. They both missed each other. Nicki placed her uninjured hand on his chest and gently pulled away. “This won’t change anything” she said shaking her head. Drake sighed and rubbed her thighs knowing he tried.

“I don’t know if I can be just friends with you” he simply stated.

“Well, I’m  sorry but that’s all it's going to be” she said taking a deep breath. Scarlett came around the corner.

“Daddy juice” she demanded.

“Ok let daddy to get your bag from out of the car” he said moving away from Nicki.

“Umm....that won’t be necessary”

“Why is that?” he asked turning back towards her.

“I have some stuff that I bought her…hold on” she said getting down off the counter. Nicki walked to her room and brought back two bags full of stuff and placed it on the counter. She looked in one bag and pulled out a brand new sippy cup that had all the Disney princesses on it. She ripped it out of the box and rinsed it with warm water. She then went into the refrigerator and got some juice and poured it into the cup. She handed it to Scarlett. “There you go ladybug” she cooed. Scarlett took it from her and began drinking.

“What do you say?” Drake asked.

“Thank you” she replied before going back into the living room. Drake looked at Nicki and smiled.

“You went shopping for her?” he asked surprised.

“Yeah, I just picked up a couple things....it’s no big deal”

“Let me see what all you got” he stated looking into the bags on the counter. Nicki bought her a couple oufits, some shoes, toys and other stuff.

“I didn’t know what size she was so I kinda guessed” she shrugged.

“That was very sweet of you”

“Thanks” she replied. The moment got awkward again.

"Hey I'm going to get back home, thanks for inviting us and thanks for the gifts" he said picking up the bags.

"No problem,  see you guys later" she said coming from the kitchen and walking with him to the living room to get Scarlett.

"Come on baby, we're leaving" he said picking her up. They walked to the door and Nicki followed. "Say bye to Nicki" he coached.

"Bye" she said waving.

"Bye ladybug" Nicki waved back. Drake looked at her for a minute thinking of what to say.

"Bye friend" he said turning around and leaving with Scarlett and the two bags in tote.

"Bye" she said lowly closing the door. She didn't know why but the way he said 'friend' was hurtful to her in a way.
